THREE VIEWS ON SALVATION:  We've posted a simple one-page chart here that compares the three major views on salvation. Virtually all religions espousing a belief in heaven (and hell or something similar) fall into one of these three camps. (Even reincarnation is basically a "works" religion. You just have to work through multiple lifetimes.) We've found the following three categories helpful in deciphering "salvation talk":

1. Calvinism (AKA: Eternal Security, "Once-Saved-Always-Saved"), i.e. Salvation is entirely a work of God, and has nothing to do with an individual's will or experience. "Faith" is bestowed by God as a gift. It is not the product of freewill.
2. Arminianism (AKA: Wesleyanism, Biblical assurance), i.e. peace with God through individual faith and grace.
3. Works Salvation (AKA: Legalism), i.e. the notion that you can earn your way to heaven through good works.

This is a quick overview which we develop in more detail in other articles under the Salvation heading. Click on the icon below to view.
